VaCAS Facilities
The principal motivation for establishing VaCAS was to formalize the sharing of member faculty laboratories and resources. These shared resources are utilized for research, education, and outreach activities in support of the Center’s objectives. VaCAS is therefore a "de-centralized center" that consists of core and affiliate laboratories. The core laboratories are research laboratories directed by Core Faculty members. These facilities are available, subject to scheduling constraints, to all VaCAS Core and Affiliate Faculty, as needed to support the Center’s activities. Affiliate laboratories are research labs directed by Affiliate Faculty. Equipment and facilities in affiliate laboratories can be made available to VaCAS members for VaCAS-related research, subject to approval by the laboratory’s director.
Vehicle Platforms
VaCAS members maintain a variety of vehicle platforms that are used for research purposes.
Accessible Vehicle Testing Facilities
To supplement the resources of individual members, VaCAS has co-sponsored the development of an autonomous vehicle test site at the Kentland Farm. VaCAS also has a facility at Claytor Lake for testing surface boats and underwater vehicles.
